My 15 year old daughter is asking me to let her get a hotmail account and Windows live...?

is it safe?? i've always been against those things because i don't know anything about it. she's using the yahoo messenger now but she still is asking for windows live. can you either post a link to a website that has info on it or let me know what you think about this?? thanks :)

You know what, I say yes. The reasons are because you seem to be considering it (because you posted a question about it) which means your 15 year old daughter is probably responsible enough for it. So if you want to moniter her on the computer, check the history every night, and check up on what she is doing, who she is emailing, all those types of things. (how you do it is you press CONTROL h, then you click on Today, then you just click on the URL's your daughter visited) But don't tell her you even know what a 'history' is on a computer, if she asks you if you know what it is or something tell her you don't know and even ask her to show you how it works if you want. Also, don't ask her for a password to her windows live or hotmail password(s)!! You can always check it on History.. Good luck you nosy parent. LOL, you're lucky I know about history.

Reply:Well, like anything else, it's only dangerous if used improperly. You could buy her an IPOD but if she tried to eat it, then you would have problems. At 15 I don't see a problem with the basics like this, and she's already using a messenger anyway. Just have a quick talk with her so she knows the limitations, no activity with strangers is the key thing. You have to let them grow up.
Reply:If she is using Yahoo! Messenger then Windows Live will not hurt. They are both relatively the same, I have Windows Live and I enjoy it. I can have my Yahoo! contacts on there as well as my hotmail contacts. Maybe she has a friend or something that has Hotmail and she wants it to... There's nothing wrong with it tho. Be conscious about what she's doing online but don't be obsessive. It will push you guys apart from each other. There are crazy people out there and yes, be aware of who she's talking to but more than likely, it's going to be friends from school...
